RIMS chapters are the front lines of a dynamic organization highlighting the field of risk management. Chapter officers are vital to the success of the local chapters, and ultimately, to the success of the entire RIMS organization. All Professional Members of the Chapter are invited to serve on the Board of Directors.

A Board member serves a one (1) year term.

President

President

Objective:

The Chapter President keeps the chapter focused on setting and maintaining its goals. The President oversees officers and committees and encourages teamwork. The President maintains the operations of the chapter.

Responsibilities:

To attend all meetings; to preside at all meetings; monitor progress of chapter’s goals and objectives; enforce bylaws; attend RIMS training and leadership sessions, appoints Nomination Committee, identify and implement services for chapter members, keep current with RIMS services, prepare board meeting agendas, prepare President’s Message for quarterly RIMSail; report to membership; serve as the chapters’ spokesperson; develop and manage chapter website and marketing strategy; recognize achievements of members, plan annual board retreat, prepare the chapter goals, meetings/ events, and budget with other officers. Schedules internal annual audit Dec with Vice President and Treasurer of chapters’ books.

Average Time Commitment:

15 to 20 hours per month.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of RIMS; working knowledge of chapter bylaws, service of at least one term in another officer position; ability to delegate, public speaking ability, leadership skills, ability to communicate effectively; has attended Building a Successful Chapter or similar RIMS Leadership session.

Measure of Success:

Chapter has increased revenue and is operating within budget; new members are recruited and retained, questions and problems are handled in a timely manner, committees are active and growing, available to other officers and committee members, meetings are held efficiently, working with the board in spirit of cooperation.

Benefits:

Gain experience in building and working with committees, play a key role in shaping chapter’s future, opportunity to network on different levels, improve meeting management and public speaking skills, gain experience that can be used on the job. Be a mentor to new volunteers.


Vice President

Chapter Vice President

Objective:

The Vice President is responsible for assisting the President in coordinating and directing committee activities and chapter operations

Responsibilities:

To attend all meetings; monitor progress of chapter’s goals and objectives; enforce bylaws; advise and assist the President, assume President’s role in President’s absence; enhance and improve educational seminars & chapter meetings, develop programming for the year, orchestrate chapter meetings (i.e. facility, menu, invitations and follow-up survey) work with other officers to promote events. Provide chapter meeting recap for RIMSail, manage website, keep current with RIMS services; report to membership; collaborate on chapter recognition submissions and prepare the chapter budget along with other officers. Order President’s Plaque from Society and make presentation at the December Chapter meeting.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of RIMS; working knowledge of chapter bylaws, service of at least one term in officer position; ability to delegate and articulate chapter objectives.

Average Time Commitment:

12 to 15 hours per month.

Measure of Success:

Completion of goals, new members are recruited and retained, problems are handled in a timely manner, committees are active and growing, available to other officers and committee members, meetings are held efficiently, good team spirit.

Secretary

Secretary

Objective:

The Secretary is responsible for recording all official actions of RIMS in accordance with the Constitution and Bylaws.

Responsibilities:

Attend all meetings; take complete and accurate minutes of all Board meetings; submit board meeting minutes via e-mail to all Board Members for approval at the subsequent Board meeting; maintain and distribute (as directed by the Board) the Chapter Constitution and Bylaws; certify and report all Chapter election results to RIMS National; maintain official copies of all Board minutes; maintain official records of all Chapter elections; prepare and submit any official information packets or records of the Chapter to RIMS National as needed and as authorized by the Board.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of RIMS; working knowledge of chapter bylaws, service of at least one term in officer position; excellent written communication and organizational skills.

Average Time Commitment:

6 to 8 hours per month.

Measure of Success:

All records are created and maintained as indicated above, distributed in a timely manner and Chapter business is in order.

Membership Director

Membership Director

Objective:

To maintain membership records and recruit new members. Responsibilities: Attend all meetings, identify potential members, develop membership and retention campaigns, maintain chapter mailing lists and develop surveys to assess needs of chapter members.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of RIMS; working knowledge of chapter bylaws, service of at least one term in another officer position; good record keeping, knowledge of marketing, good people skills, has attended the Building a Successful Chapter, A “how to” Workshop (formerly known as the Chapter Average Time Commitment: seven hours per month).

Average Time Commitment:

8 to 10 hours per month.

Measure of Success:

Membership increased by 10%, mailing lists are accurate, retention program in place, problems are handled in a timely manner, available to other officers and committee members, attend meetings.

Benefits:

Knowledge of entire membership base, networking with all members of chapter, satisfaction and recognition, gain experience that can be used on the job.


Chapter Treasurer

Chapter Treasurer

Objective:

To develop and monitor the Chapter’s financial operations.

Responsibilities:

Maintain financial records and reconcile discrepancies, prepare annual budget with help from other officers, prepare monthly financial statements, monitor cash flow, prepare and file IRS and other government forms.

Qualifications:

|Knowledge of RIMS; working knowledge of chapter bylaws, service of at least one term in another officer position; good with numbers, comfortable doing accounting and balancing checkbooks.

Average Time Commitment:

10 to 12 hours per month.

Measure of Success:

Checkbook is balanced, records are in order, all forms are filed, budget submitted, approved and met.

RIMS Delegate

RIMS Delegate

Objective:

To provide representation for the San Diego Chapter in the Society’s House of Delegates.

Responsibilities:

To help guide the Society in the achievement of its overall objectives and to provide a link between the Society and the San Diego Chapter.

Qualifications:

The individual elected to this position should be interested in the Society and should be thoroughly knowledgeable of both San Diego Chapter and RIMS activities, preferably a former President of the Chapter. It is recommended that the incoming Delegate attend the Building a Successful Chapter, A “how to” workshop (formerly known as the Chapter Leadership Seminar) prior to commencing their term. The Delegate is expected to attend the House of Delegates meeting at the RIMS Annual Conference. The Delegate is responsible for conveying the Chapter’s needs, ideas, and positions on Society programs. Public speaking ability is also helpful.

Average Time Commitment:

4 to 6 hours per month and 1 meeting at the annual conference House of Delegates Meeting.

Measure of Success:

Completion of goals, accurate and prompt reporting of issues to Chapter members; accurate and prompt feedback to Board of Directors on chapter issues; available to other officers and committee members, meetings are held efficiently, good team spirit.

Gain experience in building and working with committees. You are not only a leader in the San Diego Chapter but you are a leader in the Society as a whole. You, as a representative of the San Diego Chapter, have a voice as to the overall direction the Society should take, and will have an opportunity to network on different levels of the Society and with other Chapter representatives and officers.


Directors at Large

Directors at Large

Objective:

To better understand the collaborative efforts of the San Diego RIMS Chapter and actively contribute to its’ success.

Responsibilities:

Attend all Board and Chapter Meetings, provide valuable insight from a Chapter member perspective that will enhance programming events and participate and serve on one specific Chapter committee to learn teamwork skills. Network with professional and associate members and encourage them to attend and support the Chapter events.

Qualifications:

Active RIMS membership, general knowledge of RIMS and understand the Board’s overall goals; develop a genuine interest to serve in a Chapter officer position and ability to host one Chapter meeting within a twelve month period.

Average Time Commitment:

5 to 10 hours per month.

Benefits:
