A closer look at our 2020 Vice President, and Risk Manager for Hunter Industries—Jose De Jesus Lugo-Camacho
Jose De Jesus Lugo-Camacho exudes passion, passion for his job, for risk management, for his company and for life. As the Risk Manager for Hunter Industries his responsibilities are varied and complex as he oversees all of Hunter’s worker’s comp claims, as well as the health and safety of its 800 full time and 100 temporary employees, property and liability claims, and is a key participant in negotiating Hunter’s insurance policies.
Hunter Industries is a family owned company which manufactures irrigation products and Jose appreciates that the company truly cares about its employees. Jose embraces this philosophy in his job as he strives daily to improve the safety and working environment for all employees. Jose does his by immersing himself into the details of each employee’s work routine and then strategizing about methods to prevent and reduce work injuries. He has been very successful at this as Hunter has an excellent safety record.
Jose also enjoys strategizing and managing worker’s comp claims, using his experience and working closely with the insurance adjuster and defense attorney to develop an early game plan to get an employee healthy and back to work. Jose uses his experience, bilingual abilities, and empathetic nature to earn an employee’s trust, so as to not make the process adversarial and to most benefit the injured employee. Jose’s strategizing and efforts are paying off as in 2016 Hunter closed the most comp claims ever in one year.
Jose’s passion and enthusiasm outside the office include soccer and although he would never boast he is clearly an elite player. He is currently challenging himself by participating in “Spartan Runs”, 14 miles runs which include steep hills and multiple obstacles.
Jose is clearly passionate about risk management and plans to get his ARM in 2018, and, time permitting, become a board member of San Diego RIMS in 2019.
