Member Spotlight on Beth Ann Coleman (By Katie Johanski)

Beth Ann Coleman is one of our newest Directors-at-Large on the San Diego RIMS Board. Let’s learn more about her!

Beth Ann was born and raised in New York City’s Staten Island Borough. While in high school, she played tennis, participated in concert band and spent a month abroad in Germany. Beth Ann got a degree in Political Science with a minor in International Relations from State University of New York at Binghamton, and upon graduation took a job at American Express Company. Beth Ann spent 8 years with American Express, in part because of the opportunities to work in several different business units as well as their excellent benefits, which included educational reimbursement; Beth Ann got her MBA in Financial Economics from Pace University, Manhattan while she worked full time.

Beth Ann got married and had her first daughter in New York. Beth Ann’s husband served with the United States Navy and was relocated to San Diego, so the family bought a house in Chula Vista and Beth Ann started working for a boutique investment firm as a Compliance Officer. That firm would eventually become Allianz Global Investors and Beth Ann would be their Deputy Chief Compliance Officer.

Fourteen years and a second daughter later, Beth Ann’s husband was offered the opportunity to be the Captain of the USS New York in Jacksonville, Florida, so the family moved there for just over 2 years. Beth Ann worked for Deutsche Bank as their Head of Employee Support. She spent her time there overseeing conflict-related compliance policies.

When Beth Ann returned to San Diego 7 years ago, she joined Fairfield and has been there ever since. She started as their Chief Compliance Officer and has recently acquired the additional responsibilities as  Risk Manager. Beth Ann joined RIMS to learn and get more involved in the risk industry within San Diego. She says, “What we do is complicated and daunting. It helps to establish a network of peers to tap into. We’re all dealing with the same issues and challenges. Why not join a group like RIMS to collectively share ideas and thoughts?” Beth Ann also finds her service on the RIMS Board, along the Southern California Compliance Group and National Society of Compliance Professionals, to be fun and rewarding.

Beth Ann has two daughters: Meredith is 25 and Miranda is 22. Both are living and working in Southern California. In her free time, Beth Ann likes to play golf, hike, travel with her husband, read and cook. She is a foodie at heart and loves to find restaurants with good meals and good service. Beth Ann enjoys live theater, music and comedy, and Palm Springs is her happy place. She volunteered to be on the Golf and Holiday Party Committees for the Board, which now makes a lot of sense considering her pastimes.

Thanks for your service, Beth Ann!
