Member Spotlight on Tim Kolgen (by Katie Johanski)
Timothy was born and raised in Menasha, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and majored in Business Administration and Marketing. During college, Timothy interned with a company called Maximus.
Without ever having seen a surfboard in person, Timothy knew he was meant to live and play in warm weather near an ocean. He moved to San Diego in 2004 with friends-of-friends and has been in Southern California ever since.
Timothy is a Business Development Manager at CBIZ in their Valuation Group, responsible for selling Property Insurance Appraisal services. CBIZ in one of the top 10 accounting firms in the country; it is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange and has over 4,800 employees throughout the US.
Timothy’s first job in California was in the Management Training program at Hertz Rent-a-Car. One year later he transitioned back to Maximus, but this time as a Property Appraiser in California and not as an intern in Wisconsin. Timothy did inspections for Maximus for eight years before he started with CBIZ.
There is a CBIZ office in Poway, but when Timothy is not traveling, he works from his home in Ladera Ranch. His favorite parts of the job include helping and interacting with people. His least favorite part is traveling once a month to his accounts in California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and Hawaii. Timothy believes that success at work means helping as many people as you can.
Timothy and his wife, Kellyn, have been married for 6 years and have two children. Maya is 3 years old – she’s a super athletic momma’s girl. Mason is almost 1 year old – he’s a daddy’s boy who loves playing with his big sister and gets into everything. Rounding out the family are two dogs – an Australian Shephard named Ulu (short for Uluwatu, a surf spot in Bali) and a Maltese Terrier named Bodhi (Patrick Swayze’s character in the movie Point Break). In his free time, Timothy likes to hang with his family, surf or do anything on the beach, or go mountain biking in Big Bear and Lake Tahoe.
Timothy brings valuable Associate perspective to the San Diego RIMS Board and enjoys sharing ideas he has learned from other Chapters and organizations. His goal is to grow the San Diego Chapter and make it the best in the nation. He invites you to join him at a meeting.
