President’s Message

Happy Holidays,

Another year flies by!  Not just this year, but the last few have been a blur.  Must be a COVID thing…

I want to thank our current board for their service this year and welcome a new Associate Advisor to the 2024 Board.  Thank you, Duane Johnson, for your many years of service, we hope you will stay involved with the chapter as you roll off the board.

I am so appreciative of Lan Nguyen for remaining the Treasurer, Julie Nester for the Vice President role and Katie Johanski for the Secretary position.  Beth Ann Coleman, Cindy Faulk, Erica Kneeland, and Jose Lugo have agreed to stay on as a Directors at Large for another year.  Welcome to Philip Cordiero of Sedgwick who will join Tim Kolgen as he continues to contribute in the role of Associate Advisor.

As is a tradition, your board members will sacrifice a weekend in early January to map out the coming year.  We are looking for suggested content for our programing and other networking events.  Please share your thoughts by sending a message to the chapter either by going to the website www.sandiegorims.org or email us at sdrims@sdrims.org.

We plan on more in-person meetings in 2024, mark your calendar for 1/25/2023.  Ryan Nell, Shareholder at Pettit Kohn, will again speak on employment law and what to expect in the coming year.  This is a topic you will want to invite your HR team to.  You can register by going to the website noted above.

We had a fairly quiet fourth quarter with a webinar in November on The Internet of Things (IoT) presented by Kirk Ferguson from HSB.  This is an ever-evolving topic, and the presentation was very informative.

What wasn’t quiet was the Holiday Luncheon.  What a great group of people.  I am so glad so many could make it.  I want to thank Beth Ann Colemen for making the arrangements and Kristina Dethmanivong for helping out with the check-in and behind the scenes admin things, not just for this event but for most of our in-person meetings too.  Thanks to all of you that brought a raffle prize.

A warm welcome to the following Professional Members who joined San Diego RIMS in the last 3 months:

Jodi Lvov,
Compliance Supervisor at Hathaway Dinwiddie

Kevin Ibarra,
Risk Specialist at Hunter Industries

Tyler Matthews,
Director of Enterprise Risk & Assurance at Teradata

I hope all of you have had and continue have a great holiday season.

Respectfully,

Cheryl Berman
